So, I was speaking to one of my best friends the other day and we were talking about everything as usual. You know how it is, you start on one topic and bounce from subject to subject just to make your way back around to the original.
So he was telling me how the class he is taking is so damn boring and wishes he would have done it in undergrad so as to not have to worry about it now. Then I made the comment about how I wish I had went ahead and went straight to grad school at the same undergrad. At least then I know that I would have automatically gotten in and that I would be finished by now.
I was saying that some of those choices, if made, would have taken us some down some very different paths then the ones that we are on now. I feel that with every decision you make there are different ways the present is shaped rather good or bad.
It's like life is like a bunch of locked doors, and you choose the key to get thru it to the other side. In some instances we can back out of that door before it closes and becomes too late.
If I had chosen to go straight to grad school, then I would have missed some of the opportunities and meet a lot of the people that I have come across. There are times when I look back at things like this and say, "what if?" but in the end I am happy with the path that I have gone on, because even looking back at some of the good things there would be a lot of negative aspects of my life that would have come in fruition. Hell, I wouldn't have even met my good Judy that I was having this conversation with.

I think about this sometimes. I try not to think about the past in a regretful way though. What-ifs tend to frustrate me.
Yeah...I had this thought too... I posted about on 11/2...basically, the question of how one simple change can alter the entire course of your life. It's pretty deep - scary sometimes.

Actually, your response that day said it best...

I've always believed that the choices we make in life are for a reason, and although we make different detours along the way, the experiences and people we meet along the way are there for a purpose, and each one you take a little bit of their soul, good or bad.
@ mr. jones - don't let it frustrate you, it'll be fine
@ cocoa rican - i totally forgot that you had something similar posted, and I left a comment. See how my mind just wanders
Amen. I keep thinking that if I had gone to law school after college, then...
But as my Mother used to say. IF "If" was a fifth, we would all be drunk".
